Pre-Marital Health Screening
Start your journey together with confidence. Comprehensive health screening for couples planning marriage.
Why Pre-marital Health Screening?
Understand your health status before marriage and ensure a healthy start to family planning. Our pre-marital packages include essential genetic screening (thalassaemia), infectious disease testing, reproductive health assessment, and comprehensive health evaluation designed specifically for couples planning to marry.
Why Screen Before Marriage?
Many conditions we screen for have no symptoms — you may be unaware until they affect your pregnancy or future children. Screening gives you time to act, not just react.
🧬
Detect Genetic Carrier Conditions
Conditions like thalassaemia are carried silently. When both partners are carriers, each pregnancy carries a 25% risk of a severely affected child.
Check Your Immunity
Rubella and chickenpox in early pregnancy can cause serious birth complications. We check whether you’re protected — and vaccinate if you’re not.
Screen for Infectious Diseases
Hepatitis B, syphilis, and HIV can be transmitted between partners and to babies during pregnancy — often with zero symptoms in early stages.
Assess Your Overall Health
Kidney, liver, thyroid, lipid, and diabetes profiles give both partners a full health picture before entering married life and starting a family.
Plan Your Family Together
Results give you and your partner the information needed to make informed, confident family planning decisions — with your doctor’s guidance.
Act Early, Not Late
Screening 3–6 months before your wedding leaves time for follow-up tests, vaccinations, or counselling before you plan to conceive.

What Does the Screening Cover?
Each test in our packages is chosen for a specific reason related to your health, your partner’s health, and the health of your future children.
Genetic Screening
Both Packages
Identifies whether you or your partner carry the thalassaemia gene. Most carriers have no symptoms. If both partners test positive, your doctor will refer you to genetic counselling before you plan to conceive.
Knowing your blood group before pregnancy is important for emergency care and obstetric planning.
Infectious Disease Screening
Both Packages
Checks whether you are infected, immune, or unprotected. If unprotected, vaccination is recommended. Hepatitis B can be passed from mother to baby at birth.
Tests immunity to German measles. Rubella in early pregnancy can cause miscarriage or congenital defects. Non-immune patients are vaccinated before conceiving.
Syphilis can be completely symptom-free but is transmissible during pregnancy. Detected early, it is fully treatable with antibiotics.
Strongly recommended for couples planning a family. Early detection prevents mother-to-child transmission and enables effective treatment.
Women’s Health Extras
Enhanced Package Only
Baseline cancer screening for liver, colon, and ovarian markers. Elevated results prompt further investigation — not a diagnosis, but an early signal.
Assesses hormonal balance and ovarian function. Elevated FSH can indicate diminished ovarian reserve — useful context before planning a family.
Pelvic ultrasound checks the uterus and ovaries. Thyroid and breast ultrasounds screen for nodules or abnormalities that may need monitoring.
Checks chickenpox immunity, screens for autoimmune conditions (lupus), and establishes a baseline bone density reading before pregnancy.
How It Works
From booking to results — here’s what to expect on your screening day.
1. Book Your Appointment
Call, WhatsApp, or book online. Both partners can be scheduled for the same slot at our Orchard or Tampines clinic.
2. Fast for 8 Hours
Plain water is allowed. Continue regular medications — but hold diabetic medication until after the blood draw.
3. Complete Your Screening
Essential: ~1 to 1.5 hrs. Enhanced: ~2 to 2.5 hrs. A time chit is available on request for your employer.
4. Doctor Consultation
Results are ready within 7 working days. A post-screening doctor consultation is included in all packages to walk you through your findings.
📍 Available at: HOP Medical Centre Orchard (Palais Renaissance) & HOP Medical Centre Tampines (CPF Building)
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do we need to fast before the screening?
Yes — fast for at least 8 hours before your appointment for accurate blood glucose and lipid readings. Plain water is permitted. Continue regular medications as usual, but hold diabetic medication until after the blood draw. Full preparation instructions are sent upon booking.
Q: Should both partners get screened?
Yes. Conditions like thalassaemia only pose a risk when both partners are carriers — so screening only one partner gives an incomplete picture. Both can use the Essential Package, or take our Couple Bundle at $749 (Inc GST). Female partners may also upgrade to the Enhanced Package.
Q: Can we still screen after we're already married?
Absolutely — especially if you’re now planning to start a family. All our packages are available to couples at any stage. The tests for thalassaemia, Hepatitis B, and rubella immunity are just as relevant and actionable after marriage. WhatsApp or call either clinic and we’ll guide you to the right package.
Q: Is pre-marital screening only for couples planning to have children?
Not at all. Screening is for every couple entering marriage. It helps identify conditions you may unknowingly carry, protects each other’s health, and gives you a clear health baseline as you begin married life together — regardless of family planning status.
Q: What if both of us test positive for thalassaemia?
Your doctor will explain the implications clearly during the post-screening consultation and refer you to genetic counselling. Being a carrier couple does not mean you cannot have children — it means you now have the information to make thoughtful decisions with the right professional support around you.
Q: When will I receive my results?
Your comprehensive report is ready within 7 working days. Results are discussed during a post-screening doctor consultation included in both packages — your doctor will explain each result in plain language and advise on next steps. If anything requires urgent attention, our team will contact you sooner.
Q: What happens if a result comes back abnormal?
An abnormal result is not necessarily serious — values can be mildly off due to diet, timing, or other factors. Your doctor will interpret everything in context during your consultation, and may recommend a repeat test, specialist referral, vaccination, or lifestyle adjustments. Every finding is an opportunity to act early.
